Whooroo Gets There Just In Time

Impressive Echuca winner Whooroo had to overcome a series of mishaps getting to the races, before strolling home in the 0-58 Handicap over 1600m. The truck transporting him on the three hour journey broke down before leaving the Ballarat stables of Darren Weir. Concerned he wouldn’t get there in time for his race, ‘Weiry’ sent driver Henry Calvert off with Whooroo in a two horse float. With time against them, things went from bad to worse when the car broke down near Bendigo. ‘Weiry’ had organised for fellow trainer Terry Kelly to take the horses in the last two races in his truck. This truck picked up Whooroo who arrived on course 20 mintues before race time. Raced by breeder Greg Baldwin along with a group of friends around St Arnaud and Swan Hill, Whooroo won by nearly two lengths under the guidance of former stable apprentice Jacob Rule. The win completed a double for the stable with recent addition Carbon Spirit bolting in at Edenhope.
