Well Deserved Win For Consistent Filly

The connections of Royal Bender were entitled to party well into the early hours of Sunday at Ballarat after the filly's win at Sandown last Saturday. Having won her first three starts, the filly had not saluted the judge for nearly a year, even though she had been runner-up at three of her previous four starts. Lumping the steadier of 59kg, she was beautifully ridden by Darren Weir's former apprentice Ben Melham. He bided his run to perfection and the filly swooped home down the outside taking her stake-earnings past the $200,000 mark. John Richards, one of "Weiry's'' loyal and successful owners, bred the filly and races her with the Knockout Syndicate, managed by Sam Murphy, and Peter Kane's Give Us A Skerrick Syndicate.
