Weiry Brings Up 150 Winners

Maunafume's debut win at Mildura was a milestone for leading Ballarat trainer Darren Weir – it was the 150th time one of his chargers was successful this season. It is the first time "Weiry" has achieved this marvellous feat. The leading Victorian Country trainer for the past eight years, he is also experiencing his best season in the city – 30 metropolitan winners including 21 in Melbourne, placing him 6th on the Metropolitan Trainers Premiership. Maunafume, a half-brother to retired Stakeswinning stablemate Maunatrice, was the first leg of a double for the stable. Three races later, the enigmatic Jimmy Shiraz showed his best form, going on to win by 4 ½ lengths. Both horses were ridden by Dean Yendall, who has built up a strong association with the stable over the past couple of seasons.
