Success In Ararat Cup For Swan Hill Apprentice

Sunday’s Ararat Cup win by Clang And Bang proved the biggest success so far in the fledging career of Swan Hill apprentice Harry Coffey. Clang And Bang’s trainer Darren Weir and the Coffey family go back a very long way with Harry’s uncle Jack giving Weiry his first job. Weiry has followed Harry’s career from the start, training the 17 year-olds first winner Sauce at the Wycheproof Cup meeting twelve months earlier. Coffey, who combines riding with his Year 12 studies was grateful for the opportunity to ride the six year-old ‘Warhorse’. Racing in career best form, it was his 16th run for the preparation which began winning at Ballarat in March. The win is testament to Weiry ability to keep horse for a long period of time. Clang And Bang is raced by a number of owners who also raced the recently retired Leica Ding, winner of the 2009 Geelong Cup. Weiry has been the King of the ‘Country Cups’ this season, already winning the Mildura Cup (Lord Of Brazil), Kyneton Cup (Streets Away), Bendigo Cup (Puissance De Lune) and Ararat Cup.
