Rue Maple Salutes At Caulfield

Consistent mare Rue Maple broke a frustrating winning drought when she scored a deserved first-up win in last Saturday’s Story Landscaping Handicap over 1100m at Caulfield. It was the mare’s first win since registering back-to-back wins at Moonee Valley in July 2010. However in her subsequent 12 runs, she has been placed eight times including a narrow defeat by Mid Summer Music in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes.

Owned by the Neville, Shannon and Gavan Gereaux in partnership with Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock, the five-year-old Rubiton mare has now won five races and took her prizemoney past the $350,000 mark. Following her win, part owner Liz Dance of Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock commented “She's been a marvellous horse, she certainly knows how to run a place, so it was lovely to see her win so convincingly today and it was a terrific ride as well”. “She was certainly the best horse in the race, it was just whether she needed this run under her belt to do it, but she certainly did it ok today.”

Rue Maple followers never had any cause for concern with the win gave apprentice jockey Damian Lane a race to race. Upon dismounting he stated “On paper she looked the best horse in the race and it was all going to depend on the run she got from the awkward barrier”. “She got a nice one at that, we landed outside the leader travelling comfortably and she won like she was the best horse in the race.”
