Prince wins Moonee Valley Cup

Prince of Penzance returned to the winners circle with an amazing last to finish win in the $250,000 Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup on Cox Plate Day.

Although this clears him of the Melbourne Cup Ballot, he still needs a hefty weight penalty to guarantee a start.

If the dream doesn’t prevail, he is likely to heat to the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on the final day of the Flemington Carnival, a race we won two years ago with Puissance De Lune.

“We’ll see what happens now, I guess. There are a couple of races left, so we’ll nott to head down that path if we don’t get a run in the Cup,” said Weir.

“I’ve always had great faith in the horse, right before he started racing,” said jockey Michelle Payne who has ridden him all preparation.

The plan was originally to settle more forward in the race, but after a slow get away Michelle had to opt for plan B and ride him quietly.

She produced him at the right time on the home turn, for him to go on and win by a length.

Prince of Penzance is another horse who was purchased by our Bloodstock Agent John Foote. He was then syndicated to Sandy McGregor, Andrew Broadfoot, Galadi Holdings (John Richards), Wilawal Go Racing Synd, Dalton Racing Synd, Men In Hats Synd and Winning Five Syndicate.

Fingers crossed the first Tuesday in November is a memorable one.
