Platelet Emulates Black Caviar

Darren Weir’s dual Group 1 winning mare Platelet emulated the feat of the great Black Caviar when storming home to win the $500,000 Group 1 The Goodwood at Morphettville on Saturday. This came two weeks after her initial Group 1 success in the Robert Sangster Stakes. Twelve months earlier Black Caviar also completed the double. The win took her prizemoney to just shy of $1 million. Her victory provided a milestone for jockey Ben Melham who rode three Group 1 winners in three consecutive weeks with Escado (South Australian Derby) in between Platelet’s double. Platelet will now head to the spelling paddock and be brought back for a tilt at races during the Spring. The win completed a double for the stable with highly talented Lake Sententia’s sensational win in the $100,000 Listed Centaurea Stakes. The John Richards owned four-year-old mare was forced to race three deep without cover the entire race, before proving too strong for her opposition. She could soon be on a flight bound for Brisbane.
