Stablehand Rodney Hicks will be the first to admit he gets a real buzz when the jumping season comes around. Even on his day off he's at Darren Weir's training complex walking or swimming the stable's jumpers, and due to his dedication, "Weiry flew him to Adelaide last weekend to see his favourite Pay The Aces run in a 3200m Hurdle at Morphettville _ the first jumps race for the new season. Pay The Aces, raced by Wes Quale and Tim O'Connor, didn't let Rodney down strolling home the easiest of winners. Pay The Aces who's had leg problems and spends a lot of time exercising on the treadmill, gave "Weiry his 84th win for the season.

It was his 14th for the season at Morphettville, which just proves the excellent placement of his runners. No set goal has been set for Pay The Aces but "Weiry" is eyeing off the $151,000 Grand Annual Steeple at the Warrnambool Carnival. Should he start in the time-honoured event, it will be "Weiry's'' first runner in the gruelling 5500m event.
