The stakes win of Maunatrice was a great reward for the patience shown by her breeder Paul Hatcher, who races her in partnership with a group of his friends. Due to a number of issues, the daughter of Lightning Stakes winner Keltrice, didn't win a race for over three years but Hatcher and trainer Darren Weir never lost faith in the mare's ability.

She has now won of her past four starts in Adelaide, will now be aimed at the $115,000 Lord Reims Stakes there on March 5. Her performance in the Group 3 event will determine if she runs in the $400,000 Group 2 Adelaide Cup on March 14. Maunatrice's win also gave stable apprentice Jacob Rule, 20, his biggest win in his short career. Rule has now ridden 12 winners this season in Adelaide while the success continued trainer Darren Weir's unbelievable strike-rate there - 13 wins from 21 runners.
