Most Improved Mare Wins Again

Five-year-old mare Miss Godden, is arguably the most improved horse in the stable as she made a one-act affair of the $30,000 Country Showcase over 2200m at Werribee on Sunday. In her first preparation she showed little promise having 5 starts and a third in a Maiden at Ararat was her best performance. Since then she has really turned things around in her second preparation and from seven starts, she hasn’t missed a place – winning three of her past four starts, finishing second in the other. The daughter of Half Hennessy who is raced in partnership by her breeders Kevin & Sue Kealey, was one of three winners for the stable on Sunday. Weir sent two runners to Kyneton for a 100% record – Starcraft mare Arpeggio was too strong over 1450m before three-year-old filly Terco Chica kept her unbeaten record intact with a win against the older horses. The daughter of Rakti provided Brad Rawiller with the final leg of a winning quartet.
