Lord Of Brazil Wins Mildura Cup

Darren Weir, crowned Victoria’s leading Country trainer for a record 9th year at a Gala Dinner in Melbourne last week, added another Mildura Cup to his resume when Lord Of Brazil got up in the last bound to beat Swan Hill Cup winner Cellarmaster. Coincidentally Lord Of Brazil carried the number 10 saddlecloth, the same number Big Ton’s Mum carried to win the Cup 10 years earlier for the Weir stable. The son of Lord Of Warriors was purchased by ‘Weiry’ from the South Island Sale in New Zealand for a mere $9,500. Raced by a large contingent of owners, a number from ‘Weiry’ hometown of Berriwillock, is starting to compile quite a formidable record – six wins and seven 2nds from 16 starts for over $125,000 in stakes. He is now likely to run in an Open Handicap over 1400m at Flemington next Saturday en route to the Gold Nugget over 1600m at Ballarat on September 23.
