Guineas Bound

Mahuta booked his place in the Australian Guineas with a ‘tough as old boots’ win in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.


It was Mahuta’s sixth straight win since breaking his Maiden at Kyneton in October when the blinkers were applied. This was probably the turning point as since then he has answered every challenge adding five black type races to his name.


He had to do it tough in the Autumn Stakes as he was a touch slow away from the barrier and Brad Rawiller had to burn petrol early to find the lead.


With fitness on his side and sheer determination he was able to hold on by the narrowest of margins to the fast finishing Holler.


At this stage Mahuta joins stable mates Palentino and Perfect Reflection in the 2016 Australian Guineas on March 5th.
