Gotta Takes Care Of His Rivals

A great ride by Irish jockey John Allen paved the way for him to land his biggest win on Gotta Take Care in the $100,000 Brendan Drechsler Hurdle at Bendigo. He put pressure on the favorite, the Australian Hurdle winner Kirribilli Gold, rounding the home turn before gaining the upper hand soon after straightening up with two hurdles to jump. Gotta Take Care wearing blinkers on the jumps for the first time, cleared right away to win with plenty in reserve. And he thoroughly deserved the success after chasing home the champion jumper Black And Bent in the Galleywood Hurdle at Warrnambool then beat all but Palmero at Mornington. He wasn’t suited by the heavy track conditions in the Australian Hurdle at Sandown but at Bendigo with the gear change, he appreciated the much firmer ground. Gotta Take Care, who is 2nd behind Megapixel in the J.J Houlahan Jumps Championship, is now likely to next run in the $100,000 Kevin Lafferty Hurdle over 3600m at Warrnambool on July 1.
