Gotta Take Care Jumps To The Lead

When star jumper Gotta Take Care saluted in an eventful Yalumba Classic Hurdle at Oakbank on Easter Monday, he took the mantle of Darren Weir’s most successful horse with 13 victories, one more than Boss It’s Over and half brother Gotta Keep Cool. Never out of second gear he looked set for an easy win in the $100,000 feature before the last jump almost brought his downfall. He appeared to clip the top of the hurdle blundering badly and how jockey John Allen managed to scramble back into the saddle is anybody’s guess before going on to win. Gotta Take Care who set a modern day weight-carrying record of 70kg - 11 stone in the old Imperial measures – has now topped $500,000 in stakes – nearly $300,000 over the jumps. He will now be aimed at the prestigious $100,000 Galleywood Hurdle on the middle day of the Warrnambool Carnival – a race he ran second to the brilliant jumper Black and Bent last year.
