Easter Proves Fruitful For Stable

Spartini's win at Caulfield on Saturday, which was her fifth from her past six runs, was the start of another fruitful long weekend for Victoria's top country trainer Darren Weir. The stable notched five winners, two seconds and seven thirds over the three days of Easter. At the Stawell Cup meeting on Easter Sunday, "Weiry" came home with three winners beginning with 3YO colt Domes Accord, who was resuming from a spell, with an authoritive win over stable mate Royal Butler. Two races later, 'debutant' Planet King, a son of Elvstroem, gave apprentice Damian Lane a winning double (also successful on Domes Accord) when successful in the Super Vobis 3YO Maiden over 1300m. 'Weiry' rounded out the day with Some Target proving far too strong for his rivals, winning by three lengths in the final race of the day at Stawell. Promising stayer Hurdy Gurdy Man, racing in the colours of Ed & Robyn Shakespeare, gave the stable four winners for the day with victory in the Easter Cup at Mornington. The four-year-old entire by Street Cry has now won or placed in seven of his 10 starts may now 'back up' in the $50,000 Hamilton Cup over 2200m on Sunday.
