Chord Dominant At Sandown

Five-year-old gelding Chord, who is lucky to be racing, was a dominant victory in the Hyland Race Colours over 2100m at Sandown on Wednesday. About 18 months ago, the son of Distant Music, suffered a serious injury knocking off the top of his hip joint. Given plenty of time by connections to recover, Wednesday's win was his second metropolitan success. Two starts earlier he showed a lot of tenacity to narrowly win the $80,000 Tour Of Victoria Final at Moonee Valley. He is raced by his breeders Bill Langford and Robert Hetherington who also raced his mother Alunarmist, along with Robert’s wife Julie, David Speechley, Lyle Connors, his daughter Karen, Bob Lomax and Ray Mitchell. Originally his trainer Darren Weir had earmarked the $50,000 Stawell Cup on Easter Sunday as his next target but is now considering taking him back to Moonee Valley next Saturday.
