Allen Back As A Winner

Irish jockey John Allen wasted no time getting back into the winners. At his first ride back in Australia on Monday, after arriving at Ballarat only 14 hours beforehand, he won a 1700m Rating 62 Highweight at Warrnambool on his "old favourite" Via Savoia.

Allen created a huge impression riding ten winners here last year before going back to Ireland in September. He won three races in a row last winter on the Darren Weir-trained jumper.

‘Weiry’ made it a race-to-race double when Magnifique Soleil, having his first run for 16 months, scored a narrow win in a Rating 72 over 1200m. Further evidence of success the trainer has with horses that suffer ‘career threatening’ injuries, the former very promising three-year-old was given a thorough rehabilitation program to get him back to the races.
