250th Winner for 13/14 Season

The phenomenal season for Darren Weir continued at Sandown on Sunday when Red Corner led throughout in the Dandenong Southern Stringrays Handicap to bring up the stable’s 250th winner for the season.

Ridden to perfection by Michelle Payne, he fought on gamely when pressured in the straight, going on to win impressively. The son of Haradasun, racing in the very familiar green and gold colours of John Richards was Weiry's 86th Melbourne Metropolitan winner (95th Australia wide) for the 2013/14 season, giving him his first Melbourne Metropolitan Trainers Title.

Earlier in the day, Olivier, a recent addition to the stable, gave promising apprentice Harry Coffey his 26th city winner for the stable, placing him equal 2nd with Jye McNeil on the Apprentices’ Table.
