Group 1 Magic for the Lad

Gun seven year old Voodoo Lad produced the run of his already stellar career over on the weekend to claim his first Group 1 race when he took out the $1 million Winterbottom Stakes in Perth.

It has been a long time coming for his ecstatic bunch of owners who have come so close to tasting glory at the top level with Voodoo Lad on a number of occasions.

Ridden by Damian Oliver this past Saturday, he drifted back from barrier thirteen to settle down in last position before getting a cart into the race. He angled his way into the clear at the 200m mark where he unleashed a spellbinding turn of foot to power over the top of them and salute by three quarters of a length ahead of Enticing Star and Malaguerra.

It was an outstanding ‘last to first’ win, the thirteenth victory of Voodoo Lad’s 33 start career who’s total earnings have now exceeded $1.9 million.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in what was an impeccable day over in Western Australia.
