Three at Sandown whilst Ozi Choice pinches it over the border!

On a wet and windy Saturday at Sandown, we had a handy team of runners saddled up with three of them returning home victors. Mrs Gardenia (top left) got the ball rolling when she produced yet another winning performance, her third this preparation. On the back of a nice effort at Group 3 level, the mare relished the drop back in grade and the heavy going, proving just too classy for her opposition.

Donald Cup

After a strong win in the $200,000 Country Cup Final at Flemington on Oaks Day, Another Coldie (above) continued on his winning run when he made it two in a row with a fighting victory in the $50,000 Donald Cup on Sunday.

In front of a sell out crowd of 32,000 at Moonee Valley racecourse on Saturday we had two horses saddled up in the big one - the $3 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Cox Plate. Melbourne Cup bound Humidor, who's known as Humma around the stables, was still the 'underdog' as he lined up against the mighty mare Winx who was aiming to create history with her 22nd straight victory and third Cox Plate in as many years. The atmosphere around the racecourse was like nothing ever felt as the sea of blue buzzed leading into the race but what was to come was something very unexpected.

Following a brilliant Guineas day our Caulfield Carnival success continued into Caulfield Cup Day with four of our runners saluting on the big day. After winning the Listed Poseidon Stakes at Flemington two weeks prior, Snitzepeg brought his fighting form to Caulfield when he settled down outside the leader and again proved too good in the Listed $120,000 Gothic Stakes.

Bringing home the four-leaf clover

Billy Bayou (top left) started off a successful Friday afternoon’s racing at the ‘bool for Johnny Allen and the team when he broke his maiden in the opening event of the day. Amelie you Star!

Now three time Group winner and Melbourne Cup bound Amelie’s Star put in another gutsy performance at Flemington on Saturday to break through this preparation in the Group 3 $300,000 The Bart Cummings, 2500m. With Damian Lane on board she found herself settling in a nice position off the fence and behind the hot pace set by Granddukeoftuscany.

Three straight for Leather’n’lace and Cliff just edges them out

Front running filly Leather’n’lace (below) is after some Black Type success following yet another impressive victory over the weekend, making it three from three this preparation. She kicked off her campaign with a thrashing Maiden win on a heavy track at Warrnambool before another provincial score earned her an opportunity at her first Saturday city class race when she lined up against the other 3YO fillies in the $120,000 Pinchapoo Plate at Caulfield. Jumping straight to the lead, she was eyeballed in the early stages before clearly taking over. She dictated the race and travelled strongly into the straight where she shot clear and went on for an easy two length salute. It was another very nice performance by the filly who is really leaving her mark as she quickly rises through her grades.

Six months on from his Australian Cup triumph Humidor has charged back into the winner’s stall for his second Group 1 victory with an outstanding performance in the $750,000 Makybe Diva Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday. The five year old gelding was having his third start this preparation and really had his game face on as he paraded nice and relaxed prior to the event. After drifting back and settling down in his customary position towards the tail of the field, he got a nice cart into the straight, before peeling widest and showing a scintillating turn of foot to swoop straight past the A-Class field and cross the line over three lengths from his nearest rival.
